Siri is Apple’s virtual assistant and it can be a very useful feature. It can help you read messages, book rides, and tell you about restaurants.
However, sometimes Siri’s voice can be too quiet or jarringly loud to hear. If this is the case, you may need to turn up Siri’s volume on your iPhone or iPad.
1. Press and hold the Home button
If Siri is speaking too quietly or you want to turn it up, there are some easy fixes. For one thing, you can disable the feature that activates Siri when you press and hold the Home button by going to Settings > Siri & Search.
Another option is to change the voice that Siri uses. You can pick from American, Australian, British, Indian, Irish, or South African voices in the Siri & Search settings.
In addition to changing Siri’s voice, you can also adjust how it announces callers or reads notifications. You can do this by going to Settings > Siri & Search and choosing Announce Calls or Reading Notifications.
Some users have found that Siri is not speaking at all or it isn’t talking loudly enough when they ask it to play music, adjust ringer volume, or make phone calls. However, this isn’t always an issue and it can often be fixed by turning on Ring Mode or disabling Bluetooth headphones.
You can also use a special feature called Reachability to disable the Home button shortcut that triggers Siri by double-tapping it. This is useful for people with hand disabilities who find the double-press on the Home button difficult or frustrating.
Finally, you can change the frequency of Siri’s spoken responses to only speak when it hears you say “Hey Siri” or when it’s in silent mode. This can be handy when you’re trying to get work done on your phone and don’t want it distracting you.
For iPhones, it’s a simple matter of using the volume sliders to adjust how loudly Siri speaks. It’s independent of the ring tone, call volume, or music playing in the background, but it can be changed on other devices as well.
2. Say “Hey Siri”
Siri is a handy tool for iPhone users that can help you send text messages, make a call, find the best route in Maps, add appointments to your Calendar, translate text, and more. However, it can be difficult to hear Siri speak when you are using the phone in noisy environments.
When Siri can’t hear you, it won’t respond to your commands or requests. Here are some tips to fix the problem:
1. Check your microphones
If you have a problem with the mics on your iPhone, it can affect how Siri works. Try to clean the microphones and make sure they’re not obstructed by a case, screen protector, dust, or lint.
2. Use an accent you know your voice can understand
If Siri doesn’t recognize you, it may be because the language you set isn’t the same as your voice. To change the language, open Settings, tap Siri & Search, and choose the correct option for your country or region.
3. Turn off low power mode
The most common cause of Siri not responding is if your iPhone is running on low battery. If this is the case, try resetting your device to see if the issue resolves itself.
4. Always listen for “Hey Siri”
The default setting on iOS is to stop listening for the Siri command when you place your device face down or it’s otherwise covered. This can be a bit inconvenient if you’re trying to make a call or ask a question when it’s on your desk or in your pocket, but you can avoid this by turning the toggle for Always Listen for “Hey Siri” ON.
5. Use an Apple Watch and Siri
With the latest version of iOS, you can now use Siri with the Apple Watch to send messages to your HomePod, AirPods, and other paired Apple devices. This is great news for anyone who enjoys communicating with their Apple devices using just their wrist.
3. Press the Volume Up button
If Siri is speaking too low, you can easily turn her volume up to a higher level. To do so, press the Volume Up button on your iPhone.
Alternatively, you can adjust the volume from your settings menu. Fortunately, this is an easy and free fix that works with both iOS and Mac devices.
To do this, press the volume button to increase the sound level or tap and drag the slider to reduce it. The volume buttons are on the left side of your device underneath the mute switch.
In addition to increasing or decreasing the sound, you can also say “Hey Siri” to launch the virtual assistant and start talking to her. In this case, the default setting is to say “Hey Siri, increase the volume by 10%”.
However, if you’d rather have Siri speak louder than softly, simply say “Speak Louder” or “Speak Lower.” This will let Siri adjust her voice according to your preference.
As Siri can be used on a variety of devices, including AirPods, HomePod, and other Apple products, this is an easy way to make her voice louder or softer. You can even ask Siri to change her volume to a different setting, such as 75% or 80%, which is perfect for when you’re traveling and don’t want to disturb others around you.
If none of these solutions work, then it’s time to try a hard reset (also known as a force restart). This is often a go-to solution when dealing with lingering software bugs.
4. Say “Speak Louder”
Siri is a powerful tool for Apple’s iOS devices, but its voice can sometimes be too jarringly loud or too quiet to easily hear. This can cause a problem when you’re trying to answer a question or listen to music, but there are a few easy ways to turn up the volume on Siri.
First, you can use the volume buttons on your device to increase the voice output of Siri. These are located on the sides of your iPhone or iPad and control both ringer and media playback volume.
However, it’s important to note that changing the volume using these buttons will also change the volume on any audio devices you’re listening to. This means that you’ll need to repeat the process if you want to turn up the volume on your AirPods or other headphones.
If you’re using an iPhone X or later, or an iPad running iOS 12 or later, you can tap the Volume slider in the Control Center to increase or decrease the volume of Siri’s voice. You can also swipe up from the bottom of the screen to raise or lower Siri’s volume.
The same method works for Macs. Simply touch the Siri button on the digital Touch Bar above the keyboard and drag the volume slider to adjust Siri’s voice.
Similarly, you can adjust the speaker output on your HomePod by pressing the plus and minus buttons. The HomePod is designed to adjust its speaker output based on the level of noise in your room, so you may find that it’s too loud or too quiet in certain areas.
You can also turn up the speaker output on your HomePod by adjusting the volume settings in System Preferences. While this is not as straightforward as it is on an iPhone or iPad, it’s a relatively quick way to get Siri’s speaker volume to where you want it.
5. Say “Speak Softer”
Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri, is a convenient tool that can answer questions and provide useful information. However, sometimes it can be difficult to hear Siri’s voice.
If you’re finding Siri’s volume too low or jarringly loud, there are a few ways to change it. One way is to adjust the sound level of the voice feedback feature that Siri provides when you ask her a question or make a request.
The other option is to turn up the speaker volume on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or HomePod. This will increase Siri’s sound level and help her speak more clearly when answering your questions or requests.
You can adjust the Siri sound volume by using the volume buttons on the side of your device. This will also raise or lower the ringer and alerts volumes, as well as media playback.
Another way to adjust the sound of Siri is to use the slider in the Control Center (first introduced in iOS 7). This will allow you to change the volume of the Siri voice feedback feature on your iPhone, Apple Watch, or Mac.
If you’re having trouble hearing Siri, you can try saying “Speak Softer” to adjust her sound level. This is a fairly simple fix that won’t take too much time or effort to implement, but it might be a little annoying to do so every time you want to hear what she has to say.
